Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would likely jump at the chance to reunite with a handful of former Manchester United protegees after taking the reins at Besiktas.
The club legend is now navigating his first managerial job since his Old Trafford exit in November 2021 and has already enjoyed a positive start to life in Turkey by claiming a 4-1 win over Athletic Club in the Europa League, followed by a 1-1 draw with Antalyaspor yesterday.
Ironically, the Red he’s been linked with is one who arrived nine months after he bid a bittersweet farewell to his former club, as Diario AS – relayed by the Daily Record – claims Solskjaer is ‘pushing for’ the Besiktas board to pursue out-of-favour midfielder Casemiro.
Casemiro has fallen drastically in the pecking order since Ruben Amorim took the reins last November, so much so that the boss is now utilising newly promoted Carrington graduate Toby Collyer over the seasoned veteran.
A move away would benefit Casemiro

It’s not really a surprise, either. Amorim’s system requires runners with full tanks, like the unrelenting Manuel Ugarte, over ageing duo Casemiro and Christian Eriksen – the latter will be departing in June anyway when his contract expires.
Still, it’s pretty ludicrous that United’s highest-paid player, who cost a whopping £70 million, is spending each matchday watching on from the sidelines. He still has another 17 months on his contract in Manchester, making it quite surprising the club haven’t been actively pushing for him to complete a move away this month.
Casemiro, 32, has earned 105 appearances since swapping Real Madrid for the Red Devils, yet only six of those have come under Amorim. Instead, he has been an unused substitute for 11 games, with his last outing being a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on December 30. He has been given the nod just four times in total.
Honestly a player dropped by Real should only be signed up either on a free like Cavsni or Ibra were and on a 2 year deal or on loan. Was a totally negligent signing, like most of the others. Eg Antony was originally priced at 25 million and was on 25k a week. Utd asked about him but dragged their feet as usual, meantime Ajax sold another 3 players and wete not interested in selling Dnyony so Utd had to go to 90 million. I still don’t understand why the 200k a week though as 50, double what he was earning would have been enough. Mount – in his last year of his contract and was injured most of that season, yet Utd still go offer 60 million and 200k wages. I honestly believe there is something fishy. Rasmus unknown teenager and 75 million , you can go on and on and almust every deSl was greatly flawed. When it cones to outgoings we see Chelsea unused acadamy players all going for 20/30 million Utd selling ours for 1 million, maybe 5 million.
