German transfer expert confirms Man Utd are now rivalling Bayern in race for 30-goal forward duo

Given that both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to hit the ground running in front of goal this term, Manchester United are now scouring the market for young – but proven – options to bolster Ruben Amorim’s frontline.

An obvious choice among the Old Trafford faithful right now is Viktor Gyokeres. Not only is he perhaps the most in-form frontman across Europe, having scored a remarkable 23 goals in 17 appearances thus far, he is also well acquainted with United’s new head coach, Amorim.

The soon-to-be Red has only aided Gyokeres’ career as it went from strength to strength following his Coventry City departure, although he made it clear following Sporting Lisbon’s 4-1 win over Manchester City last night – during which the striker netted a hat-trick – that he was unwilling to disrespect his boyhood club by trying to bring his best players over to Manchester with him in January.

Elsewhere, after confirming the Red Devils’ interest in Gyokeres, Christian Falk added that Benjamin Sesko remains a candidate on United’s shortlist.

They have long been linked with a move for the 21-year-old; over the summer, all signs pointed towards the club finally stepping up their efforts by submtting a bid – before Sesko penned a five-year extension with RB Leipzig. He has tallied seven goals and three assists in all competitions as it stands.

Bayern Munich are currently keeping tabs on both strikers, given that Harry Kane is the only out-and-out No.9 available to Vincent Kompany, while any player considering a move to United would have to settle for a rotational role alongside Hojlund and Zirkzee.

It remains to be seen how much of a say Amorim will be given in his potental arrivals when he officially takes the reins in the international break.
