Kobbie Mainoo trained with the squad on Wednesday morning after his injury scare against Tottenham, therefore, the midfielder will be available for Manchester United’s next match against FC Porto in the Europa League.
Mainoo was replaced before half-time during Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham at Old Trafford. After picking up his injury and being substituted, the young star went straight down the tunnel to receive medical attention.
The England international, who starred at Euro 2024, was replaced by Mason Mount, who will be hoping to start the game in Portugal. The former Chelsea midfielder left the pitch needing stitches following a clash of heads with Radu Dragusin.
United fans feared the worst for the 19-year-old, but he was pictured at training this morning, but it remains to be seen if Erik ten Hag will risk him ahead of an important trip to Villa Park on Sunday.
Manuel Ugarte needs to perform better and it may make sense to start Casemiro alongside him for extra protection. The Brazilian can offer plenty in the final third and we’re still guilty of leaving gaps in the centre of the pitch.
It may be harsh on Alejandro Garnacho to miss out, but Amad Diallo deserves game time and some players will need to be kept for Sunday.
The manager reportedly has two games to save his job before the international break, so both games have significance for him as well as the team.
Harry Maguire was back in training this week after missing the game against Tottenham through injury.
United will be without left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Predicted Manchester United XI vs FC Porto
Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Ugarte, Casemiro, Fernandes; Amad, Hojlund, Rashford.
