New summer signing Manchester United star Joshua Zirkzee will only improve during his time at Old Trafford.
After securing his summer move to Old Trafford from Bologna for £36.5 million, he adds a different profile in attack for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United.
The Dutch forward scored on his debut after a substitute appearance against Fulham in the opening fixture of the Premier League.
The 23-year-old was unlucky to cause Alejandro Garnacho’s goal against Brighton & Hove Albion after he couldn’t get out of the way of the ball in an offside position in the following week.
Zirkzee made his first start as a Red Devil last time out in a 3-0 defeat to bitter rivals Liverpool.
During the game, Zirkzee was lively but missed two key chances with a save from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker denying a close-range header.
It is very early days for the new Red Devil and he should be given time to adapt and impress in England.
Joshua Zirkzee link-up play will be vital for Manchester United
The new Red Devil recently made an impact for Holland during the international break when he was able to score and provide an assist against Bosnia.
During the game, Zirkzee showed his impressive ability to hold up-play and creatively link attacks.
It is a much-needed quality at Old Trafford and he will only improve with regular minutes in the squad.
Manchester United are set to face newly promoted Southampton at Saint Mary’s on Saturday.
Rasmus Hojlund is still absent as he recovers from injury leaving Zirkzee the obvious choice to lead the line.
With the way the Dutch forward plays, he can create several chances for the likes of Amad, Garancho, and Marcus Rashford.
If United are to start turning around their current form, it will be helpful to see Zzirkzee create on-pitch connections with other forwards as Ten Hag starts to try and dominate the game to match Ineos’ ambition.
