Diogo Dalot admits United were not ‘good enough’ after Bournemouth draw

Diogo Dalot has delivered his post-match verdict after Manchester United failed to win in the Premier League again, taking their winless run to four games.

This time, it was Bournemouth who held United to a single point, joining Liverpool and Brentford as the sides to do just that since club football was resumed after the international break three weeks ago.

In truth, United put in another abject display and were lucky to walk away from the game with a point, as the case has been for a while now.

Qualifying for next season’s Champions League is all but impossible at this point and speaking after the latest disappointing showing, Dalot admitted that United were far from good enough.

“I think there were ups and downs,” he told Sky Sports, via the BBC, as he reflected on the 90 minutes at the Vitality Stadium.

“We went down two times but we had the right attitude to go back and fight for the game. We could’ve controlled much more, had more on the ball in the final third and been more patient. We conceded some counter attacks that created big chances for them and we could’ve controlled more.”

Dalot also offered his two cents on the statistic that has been doing the rounds lately, with United facing an obscene amount of shots.

“It’s been one of our concerns, maybe [we need to] try to be more compact as a team – don’t try to make the gap between defenders and midfield too big. Sometimes it is, and they counter on the counter-attack. It’s something we have to improve because it’s been nowhere near good enough for the level of this club,” he said.

Ten Hag will now be looking to pick his players up and prepare for next weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Coventry. Victory over the Championship side could secure a repeat of last year’s final as Chelsea and Manchester City go head-to-head for one of the final two seats.
