Manchester United have been linked with a move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes in recent weeks. Still, there will be stiff competition from Arsenal for the Brazilian’s signature this summer.

Gomes, 23, is enjoying a breakout season for the West Midlands club. His performances for Wolves under Gary O’Neill earned him his first minutes with the Brazil national team last month.

The former Flamengo star played the full 90 minutes against England at Wembley before featuring for a half against Spain three days later. It was from around that point he started to be linked with a move to Old Trafford as Casemiro’s potential replacement.

According to Brazilian media outlet O Dia (H/t Manchester Evening News), United are just one of the teams interested in signing Gomes. It should come as no surprise because we’ve got several midfielders facing uncertain futures including Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Scott McTominay.

However, the recent reports suggest it is Arsenal who are deemed to be more serious about a move.

A lot could change between now and the end of the season.

United have yet to hire Dan Ashworth as their new director of football. That move will put the wheels in motion for more to follow.

Meanwhile, United are also hiring Jason Wilcox as technical director.

It will be over to the new recruitment team to make a decision on whether Joao Gomes is the best fit to replace Casemiro.
