United ace reveals what was said in conversation with Ten Hag after telling manager he’s ‘unhappy’ with reduced role

Christian Eriksen has admitted that he’s ‘unhappy’ with the reduced role he’s playing at Manchester United this season.

The Dane is navigating his sophomore campaign at Old Trafford after signing as a free agent in Erik ten Hag’s maiden transfer window. He penned a three-year contract, meaning he is tied to the club until June 2025.

In 2022/2023, Eriksen played an integral role at the heart of United’s midfield. When he was fit, he played every game, and in doing so formed one-half of an experienced partnership with Casemiro.

He’s been made to adjust this term, though, having started just nine Premier League games thus far. In six of the previous seven matches, Eriksen has been an unused substitute and was granted one 37-minute cameo off the bench against Fulham in February.

In comparison, he made 25 league starts last season despite missing a significant portion of fixtures with an ankle injury from February to April.

There were rumours in January that the 32-year-old was closing in on a loan move to Galatasaray until a deal failed to materialise and Eriksen stayed put. Now, you’d expect to see him bid farewell as soon as the summer window opens…

Eriksen divulges Ten Hag talks

Currently on international duty with Denmark, the midfielder has spoken out on his situation and revealed that talks have been held with Ten Hag.

He told Tipsbladet“I’ve had a talk with Erik about being unhappy with the situation and wanting to play as much as possible.

“He said Kobbie Mainoo is doing well, and the rest of the midfield is also performing well, so there is competition for places.

“Of course, you can be concerned in the long run because I want to play as much as possible. You don’t want to always sit on the bench.”
