‘Out in the cold’: United star ‘wants out’ after hitting a ‘dead end’ under Erik ten Hag this season

Senior Manchester United ace Christian Eriksen is said to be feeling as though he’s hit a ‘dead end’ at the club, having dropped significantly down the pecking order this season.

The 32-year-old ranks behind starting duo Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro, as well as rotational options Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat. Last summer’s £60 million acquisition, Mason Mount, has also just returned to training, which could see Eriksen’s minutes limited even more.

After becoming one of Erik ten Hag’s first-ever signings in 2022, the Dane went on to play a vital role in his maiden campaign at Old Trafford, making 44 appearances in all competitions and 37 starts. He unfortunately sustained a nasty ankle injury last January that saw him sidelined for 16 matches, including the Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle United.

Fitness complaints have been a mitigating factor for him again this time around but even when he is fit, he has been unable to nail down a starting role. Ten Hag has awarded Eriksen nine Premier League starts in 2023/2024, and in the past seven matches, he has been an unused substitute for six of them.

Club concerns carry over into international affairs

Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand has opted to name the experienced playmaker in his squad for their forthcoming friendlies yet voiced his concerns over the player’s circumstances at United, labelling it as ‘not the best’ and adding that he ‘really hopes it changes’.

As such, Danish outlet Ekstrabladet claim that Eriksen’s situation is now ‘critical’ ahead of this summer’s Euros, leading him to feel like he ‘wants out’ in the next transfer window.
