As such, it was quickly met by questions and widespread speculation over the safety of Erik ten Hag’s future in the dugout. The Dutchman, still navigating the sophomore campaign of his tenure, has overseen a significantly underwhelming term thus far in M16.

However, one factor which is reportedly swaying in the Dutchman’s favour is that for him to be relieved of his duties prematurely, it would cost the club over £10 million, as per The Times.
The report adds that Ten Hag is “well respected among the INEOS hierarchy and there is a feeling that he has not been helped by the structure surrounding him, which is being remodelled by United’s new investors. They have included the manager in recent discussions about several aspects of next season, including the pre-season tour and transfer activity.”
In turn, it is believed that he “will be on shaky ground if United fail to qualify for the Champions League”.
Greenwood favouring Spain over England
Additionally, Paul Hirst touched on loanees Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood, with both wingers open to extending their stays at Borussia Dortmund and Getafe respectively.
Greenwood, 22, has not played for United since he was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in 2022 – charges that subsequently dropped in 2023.
“Greenwood is enjoying life in Spain, having scored six goals and set up five more since joining Getafe on loan for the season, and wants to stay in the country next season,” Hirst revealed.
