Manchester United keep track of highly sought-after Everton duo

Everton duo Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana have both been linked with moves to Manchester United in recent months.

The pair started in Everton’s 2-0 defeat to United at Old Trafford on Saturday and Samuel Luckhurst from the Manchester Evening News claims a source confirmed the club still like the duo, which would suggest they’re keeping track of their situation ahead of the summer.

Everton face another relegation scrap this season and know that dropping to the Championship will see a lot of their star players cherry picked by bigger clubs. Talented prospects like Branthwaite, 21, and Onana, 22, won’t be playing second tier football next season.

Branthwaite has received many plaudits in his first season in the Premier League, despite Everton’s struggles, and it looks like spending last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven under Ruud van Nistelrooy stood him in good stead.

Furthermore, Belgium midfielder Onana has impressed since joining the Toffees in the summer of 2022 for £33 million.

Onana has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Both players are under contract until 2027.

It comes as no surprise that United would be targeting key additions in midfield and defence. With players ageing (Casemiro and Raphael Varane) and others getting injured, there’s a call for greater quality and depth in the squad next season.
