Andy Cole advises Manchester United to ‘go for jugular’ against Liverpool

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has advised his former club to “go for the jugular” against Liverpool in our FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday.

It’s the most eagerly awaited tie in the next round of football’s oldest competition and it presents the biggest game of season for United. The Reds’ top four hopes are clinging on by a thread, with every game seen as a cup final, but the FA Cup is our only chance of lifting silverware this summer.

The clash and an extra backstory too, lauded by most media publications, with Jurgen Klopp departing Anfield at the end of the season. It’s not like we should need extra motivation to beat that lot.

“I’m so old school, it’s unbelievable, and I’m really going to show my age here, but back when I played for Manchester United we would always play the same, home or away,” Cole told Betfred. “We would never change. When you’re the home team, you shouldn’t change for anybody. You’re the home team, so that’s your advantage.

“I genuinely hope that Manchester United go out there, in a one-off cup game against a great team, and go for it. If you don’t go for it in a one-off cup game, then when will you ever go for it? Go for the jugular and try to win the game as the home team.”

Even though we’re at home, United are expected to go into the game as underdogs, but with a strong performance we stand every chance of reaching the semi-finals.

  1. Can’t see us progressing, tbh, the one good thing about current form is I don’t get disappointed due to only expecting the worst each match day.
But Andrew Cole is exactly right: we were always underdogs in the 70’s/80’s, but with the fighting attitude of Doc’s boys – and under Big Ron – we knew we had a chance. “Up boys, and at ‘em” right from first whistle.
