Newcastle are one goal away from taking brilliant record from Man United

Man United were the standard bearers for English football under Sir Alex Ferguson, with numerous records set by that swashbuckling side.

Since those halcyon days records have been few and far between, with one brilliant Premier League landmark that the Red Devils have held since Sir Alex’s era about to be toppled by Newcastle United.

The Magpies haven’t had the best season under Eddie Howe, but they have had the ability to score from just about anywhere on the pitch.

Newcastle need one more different scorer to beat Man United record

So much so that they’ve already seen 19 different goal scorers in the 2023/24 English top-flight campaign, and that’s level with the record set by United back in the 2012/13 season.

That was a title-winning season for the Reds – their last – and it puts Newcastle’s efforts, given their underwhelming campaign, into perspective.

According to NUFC Blog, if any one of Elliot Anderson, Lewis Hall, Emil Krafth, Matt Targett or Paul Dummett find the net before the end of the Premier League season, they will have a 20th scorer on record, and that would set a new mark that’s unlikely to ever be beaten.

United aficionados will surely be hoping that Fergie’s record remains intact and stands as a tribute to the man that defined an era at the club.
