Manchester United legend among leading candidates for Sunderland job

Manchester United legend Roy Keane is among one of the favourites to land the Sunderland job despite his recent comments.

Sunderland sacked Michael Beale last month and they’re still on the lookout for a new manager.

Beale, who previously managed Rangers in Scotland, won four of his 12 games before being sacked by the Black Cats. He has been temporarily replaced by Mike Dodds, until the end of the season.

The bookmarkers have Will Still listed as favourite, priced at 6/4, while Roy Keane is priced at 2/1 to make a return to the Stadium of Light.

Other familiar names linked with the Sunderland job include Scott Parker and Steve Cooper.

Keane spoke about returning to management recently, although he seems happy in his current position as a pundit.

The 52-year-old Irishman said (via The Mirror): “We were talking about going back into management, I think the longer you are out of it, the more you think well, the last few chats we’ve had about going back to it, even before Frank [Lampard] came in as a guest I am swaying towards not going back into management.”

Keane added: “I just think it’s not worth the hassle and people constantly disrespect you. Not talking about Pep (Guardiola) and (Jurgen) Klopp’s level, but when you go down a certain level and you have any sorts of chats or discussions about going back into work [management] I’m not joking you, people think you are so desperate that you’ll sign anything.”

Let us know in the comments section if you think Keane will ever return to football management.
