Fabrizio Romano provides Harry Maguire update amid Matthijs de Ligt links

Manchester United will almost certainly be in the market for a centre-back this season, with Harry Maguire among the players with uncertain futures at Old Trafford.

Maguire is approaching the end of his contract at the club and he, along with Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane, are far from certain to remain at the club beyond this summer. Jonny Evans, brought in as a short-term option last summer, is out of contract at the end of this season.

Additionally, there have been major concerns with Lisandro Martinez this season, with the Argentinian missing the majority of the campaign through injury.

Now, journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation, also offering details on any deal that would see Bayern Munich star Mathijs de Ligt reunite with Erik ten Hag.

As per the reporter on CaughtOffside, United will consider ‘important’ bids for Maguire this summer but they are not desperate to get rid of the centre-back and would be fine with the England international remaining at the club.

Additionally, it is stated that United will not rush any decision regarding players’ futures either, with the club waiting for new appointments in the hierarchy.

Matthijs de Ligt has been linked with a move to the club for several years and specifically in 2022 when he left Juventus to join Bayern Munich.

De Ligt is enduring a difficult spell at the Bundesliga giants but Romano claims the Netherlands star will wait for a decision on Bayern’s new manager before deciding over his future.

Romano adds that several clubs are attentive to De Ligt’s situation but no move has materialised or reached a stage where it’s advanced.
