Why Lisandro Martinez is missed in the dressing room when he is injured

When Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is sidelined due to injury, he is missed in the dressing room.

Erik ten Hag’s team suffered a serious setback in their Champions League qualification pursuit this past weekend as Aston Villa won three points while the Red Devils suffered defeat against Fulham at Old Trafford.

Lisandro Martinez continued to heal from a knee injury over the weekend, thus the Red Devils were once again without him.

The 26-year-old central defender suffered ligament injury during United’s triumph over West Ham United, and he has now been out for several weeks.

Journalist Alex Crook spoke on TalkSPORT how much of a loss it will be to have the Argentine absent due to injury.

He said: ‘It’s interesting you mention Lisandro Martinez, he is a real fans’ favourite as much for his industry and leadership as for his footballing ability.

‘I am told when he is not in the dressing room, and he has missed a lot of games this season, that it is a very quiet dressing room. There aren’t too many leaders out there. You can see that on the pitch.’

He has become one of the most important players for United since joining the club from Ajax. Martinez is one of ten Hag’s trusted players.

Whenever he is fit, he is the first name on the team sheet. His absence has caused huge damage to United’s season with the defense looking consistently shaky when he is not available.

His leadership quality is what we need from now till the end of the season to achieve a top four finish and get success in the FA Cup, which is United’s only chance of winning silverware this season.
