Roy Keane has issued a warning to Man United over sporting director Dan Ashworth

Roy Keane, the former captain of Manchester United, has cautioned the team about one aspect of Dan Ashworth’s signing that worries him.

Ashworth, 52, is the top pick of INEOS for the position of sporting director at United, and it seems probable that the appointment will go through.

After indications of increased interest this week following the ratification of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s deal by Premier League officials surfaced, Eddie Howe finally acknowledged that “something is going to happen.”

After spending almost three years at The Seagulls, Ashworth left Brighton in 2022 to join Newcastle. Prior to that, he worked at the FA from 2012 until 2018 in a senior role.

While acknowledging that Ashworth is among the best at what he does, Keane also thinks that his old team should be concerned by his current habit of job switching.

Speaking on the Stick To Football podcast, Keane said: “You’re talking about Dan Ashworth coming into Manchester United and being the best for the job, but he doesn’t seem to hang around for long.

“He was at Brighton for a few years, and he’s only been at Newcastle for a couple seasons, so you have to look at that too. There’s no doubt he’s brilliant at his job, but who is to say he won’t leave in 18 months for Real Madrid or Barcelona.”

Despite the fact that the 52-year-old has made moves in the past, it is reported that the sporting director, who will also have more authority at Old Trafford, is much attracted to the prospect of aiding in United’s turnaround.

  1. Maybe he’ll leave at some stage, but that’s no reason not to employ him. CR7 left us for RM, but the years before the did were kinda enjoyable…
