Sir Alex Ferguson thinks Tottenham will never win the Premier League

Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t believe Tottenham Hotspur will ever win the Premier League title.

The legendary Manchester United manager made the remark while attending a race meeting at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday.

Tottenham fans may have a giggle about it since it inspired them to a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Brighton to gain ground on the race for top four, which also involves Manchester United. Brennan Johnson scored in stoppage time to secure all three points for Ange Postecoglou’s side, after Pape Matar Sarr had cancelled out Pascal Gross’ 17-minute opener from the penalty spot.

As things stand, Tottenham are fourth in the Premier League – one point clear of Aston Villa ahead of their meeting with United later this weekend.

Anyhow, Ferguson thinks Tottenham are some distance short of competing for Premier League titles. He wouldn’t be wrong either.

Tottenham haven’t won the league since 1961, when they won the old First Division.

Sky Sports’ Matt Chapman asked Ferguson if Tottenham will ever win the Premier League. The Scot burst out laughing and said: “No!

“No, ’61 was the last time they won it, well that’s a long time.

“The opposition today with Liverpool and Manchester City being so powerful in the Premier League.

“Even for United now, we’re having to fight.”

On claims that Spurs are now more likely to win a title than United, Ferguson replied: “No chance!”
