Amad Diallo has detailed the amount of support he was given by Lisandro Martinez when he was recovering from his long-term injury over the summer.
Martinez himself was on the sidelines at the time with a foot injury, but he is now set for another spell in the treatment room after sustaining a knee injury in the 3-0 win over West Ham.
However, Amad has told the official Manchester United app about how strong Martinez’s character is and how he helped him through his own setback.
Erik ten Hag explained in his press conference on Friday that he believes Martinez will be back on the pitch helping United again before the end of the season. His influence in recent weeks has been massive and it’s a huge blow to be without him for almost two months.
“Lisandro is a fantastic person. He’s more than a player to me. He’s a leader. When I got injured, he was injured too, so he really helped me.
“He spoke to me a lot and told me not to worry about the injury, and the main thing was to stay positive and work hard to get back into the team, so I did what he and everyone else said.”
Hopefully the other defenders at the club can stand up and prove their worth between now and Martinez’s return.
