Lisandro Martinez is hoping to be fit in time for Manchester United’s blockbuster clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford on April 6.
It was confirmed this week that the Argentine international would be spending approximately eight weeks on the sidelines after suffering a sprain to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee, caused by a collision with West Ham United’s Vladimir Coufal during last Sunday’s 3-0 victory.
While United were relieved at the fact Martinez hadn’t torn his anterior cruciate ligament, which was their initial fear, it still comes as a devastating setback for both the club and player given that he’d only just returned from a re-aggravation of his metatarsal fracture.
Unfortunately, the stalwart centre-back will have spent the majority of his sophomore Red Devils season out of action.
Martinez planning comeback in time for Liverpool
As per the Daily Star, Martinez hopes to make the matchday squad for the clash with Liverpool at the beginning of April. It’s currently penned in for a 3pm kick-off, though this will certainly change after it’s picked for television coverage.
The match will mark Jurgen Klopp’s last-ever meeting with United as the Merseyside outfit’s manager, so Erik ten Hag and the players must do everything in their power to make it a memorable one.
