Romano provides welcome update to United fans that sought-after starlet will be staying at Old Trafford this window

Fabrizio Romano has addressed the growing speculation on Amad Diallo’s Manchester United future.

On Tuesday, a report suggested that the Ivorian had ‘directly asked’ the club to let him rejoin Sunderland on loan for the remainder of the campaign. Daily Mail’s United Confidential column also claimed that he was ‘interested’ in the move.

A number of Championship sides have been circling Amad this window on the off chance he was made available by the Red Devils, with the Black Cats, Middlesbrough and Leeds United all keeping tabs now that the winger is fully fit again.

His long-term knee injury kept him out of action for the first half of the campaign, meaning Amad was only granted his first outing of the term on December 30 with a 36-minute cameo away to Nottingham Forest. He has yet to feature since then and was an unused substitute in last Sunday’s FA Cup win over League Two outfit Newport County.

Romano squashes Amad rumours

Indeed, game time will be at the forefront of Amad’s mind and it’s something that he’s struggled to come upon in United’s first-team, however, it seems he’s still willing to sit patient and wait his turn; Romano issued an update last night stating that the 21-year-old has not requested to leave before the transfer deadline and that he’s held talks with Erik ten Hag over the role he’s set to play.

Now that Facundo Pellistri is making the switch to Granada, it opens up the prospect of more off-the-bench minutes for Amad to prove himself on the flanks.
