Man United have joined the race to sign £40m Man City transfer target

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka wanted in Saudi Arabia, Manchester United are reportedly pursuing Brentford star Aaron Hickey.

These are the last few days of the January transfer window and it’s hard to think the Red Devils will see any movement.

Given their limited financial options this month and the fact that INEOS have joined the team and is evaluating the United landscape, it would seem prudent for United to wait until the summer.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is being pursued by Saudi club Al-Nassr, who are rumored to be interested in a late deal.

In case Wan-Bissaka departs now or in the summer, United will be keeping an eye out for right-backs and one Premier League player is currently being watched.

Give Me Sport have now been informed by reporter Steve Bates that Brentford defender Aaron Hickey is a target for United.

Although it has been reported that United have been watching Hickey, a late January transfer appears improbable.
The reason for this is that Brentford are requesting a payment of almost £40 million, a sum that United are unlikely to meet this month.

In 2022, Brentford spent £14 million to sign Hickey and the Premier League club are looking to offload the Scotland international while making a massive profit on him.

For the Bees, Hickey has demonstrated his abilities at left and right back. United would find such adaptability appealing, and Hickey has long been a target for fierce rivals Manchester City.

Back in 2019, reports from the Daily Mail stated that City were eager to recruit Heart of Midlothian’s Hickey after seeing his potential in Scotland.
