Erik ten Hag has been blamed for not getting the best out of Jadon Sancho

Erik ten Hag, according to former Borussia Dortmund scout Sven Mislintat, should take responsibility for failing to “get the best” out of Jadon Sancho at Manchester United, an “absolute difference-maker”.

Sancho did not produce much over his two full seasons at Old Trafford. The winger finished his debut season with three assists and five goals.

That total increased to seven goals and three assists the next season, but he barely featured this season as a result of a falling out with Ten Hag, which resulted in the winger being loaned back to Dortmund this month.

Former Dortmund scout Mislintat, who was involved in signing Sancho for the German club the first time, was surprised that his output for United was not great. Mislintat thought the winger was a great asset.

“Jadon Sancho was the last transfer that Michael Zorc [ex-Dortmund sporting director] and I worked on together,” Mislintat told Sky Germany.

“On one hand, he’s a sensational guy and has a good heart, and on the other, he’s an absolute difference-maker in the Bundesliga.”

“If you get the chance to sign a player like that and your budget allows it, it’s a no-brainer. I’m a bit negatively surprised that Erik ten Hag wasn’t able to get the best out of him, because Manchester United would have benefited from this quality,” Mislintat added.

The England international has two assists in his first three games since returning to Dortmund. It looks like his style of play is just more appropriate for the Bundesliga.
