United ‘pushed’ for player to join Premier League club this month but senior figure swayed him elsewhere

Manchester United would’ve reportedly preferred if youngster Hannibal Mejbri joined Everton on loan this month over Sevilla, as per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The club were keen for Hannibal to gain more Premier League experience and while a move to Goodison Park would’ve brought uncertainty amidst their points docking and financial breaches, he could’ve played a key role and learnt a lot from Sean Dyche.

As well as that, if the 20-year-old’s long-term goal is to stay at Old Trafford, proving himself in the top flight would only aid his chances of doing so. The report claims that United ‘pushed for the player to be loaned to Everton’.

However, Sevilla’s sporting director Victor Orta took matters into his own hands when convincing Hannibal that a spell in Spain would best suit his career at this time, as he looks to secure increased game time for the remainder of the campaign.

An agreement had already been reached between the La Liga outfit and the player before the Toffees stepped in at the 11th hour to try and hijack the deal, but they were unable to change the Tunisian’s mind.
