27-year-old defender closing in on Premier League switch after Manchester United exit

Sergio Reguilon is closing in on another loan move after returning to Tottenham Hotspur from Manchester United at the beginning of January.

The Red Devils opted to activate the break clause in Reguilon’s loan terms as they expected to have Luke Shaw available for this month’s fixtures, however, he was omitted from the matchday squad for both the FA Cup win over Wigan Athletic and Sunday’s draw to Spurs.

There’s also been little clarity over Tyrell Malacia’s condition; he is yet to feature this season after sustaining an injury on the final day of the 2022/2023 campaign. When he looked as though he was getting closer to a return, United confirmed that he had suffered a setback during his rehabilitation which required surgery to correct the problem.

Still, those higher-up at Old Trafford decided that there was no need to keep Reguilon beyond the winter and he was sent back to North London when the window opened. He made 12 appearances as a Red, seven of which came as a starter.

The Spaniard is now in talks over a temporary move to Brentford for the remainder of the term and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Bees are ‘advancing in negotiations’ to sign Reguilon amidst competition from numerous clubs.
