Former Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick claims he never had discipline issues with Jadon Sancho, who has been forced out of the club after a public fall-out with Erik ten Hag.
The current Austria manager has made his feelings known on Sancho in an honest interview.
Rangnick, who spent six months at United during the England international’s debut season, defended the player’s character following his loan move back to Borussia Dortmund.
“In the six months I had him, there wasn’t a single discipline problem,” Rangnick told Sky Sport Germany.
“On the contrary. He is a calm and pleasant guy.
“He had his best time in Dortmund and, when he was healthy, always played for me. However, he wasn’t carefree as in Dortmund. But that was due to the overall situation. When he was fit, he was set and did well under me. He no longer had a chance in Manchester [this season]. He now has to get back into a rhythm and really into shape in Dortmund. From his point of view, the change makes perfect sense.”
Sancho was given three months off by Ten Hag last season and still managed his best season yet at United under the Dutchman, with 10 goals in 41 appearances.
Less than a month into the new season and it was the beginning of the end for Sancho. The manager was within his rights to publicly question the player’s “levels” in training and the player responded by labelling himself a scapegoat.
That led to Sancho being banished from all first team activities and understandly so.
Rangnick seems to forget that he had problems of his own with a few United players, including Anthony Martial. It’s clearly a difficult dressing room to master…
