Tottenham complete signing of United target in time for Old Trafford trip on Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the loan signing of Timo Werner ahead of their trip to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Ironically, Manchester United were believed to be targeting the forward before Spurs poked their noses ahead of the race by tabling their proposal to RB Leipzig.

Reinforcements are needed in attack for Ange Postecoglou this month as he navigates the absence of club captain and prolific frontman Son Heung-min, who is on international duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup.

Werner returns to England for second spell

Werner, 27, spent two years with Chelsea before returning to Leipzig in 2022. His time at Stamford Bridge was somewhat underwhelming given that he scored just 23 goals in 89 appearances, but he did leave having won the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Spurs will be hoping that he’s refined his finishing skills ready for the second half of the campaign and for his club debut, which could come as early as this weekend against United in the crunch Premier League contest.
