Erik ten Hag is hoping to have several returning players back at his disposal for Sunday’s Premier League contest against Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United booked their spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Monday night with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic. Now, attention switches back to Premier League action, where they must prepare themselves for significantly higher-ranked opposition.
Last time out in the league saw the Reds fall to a dismal 2-1 defeat – their 14th of the season – at the hands of Nottingham Forest, with United being utterly outplayed and outclassed across the 90 minutes at the City Ground.
Ten Hag on potential returnees vs Spurs
The side’s debilitating injury crisis has undoubtedly been a mitigating factor in United’s poor form, and Ten Hag has previously made it clear that he expects results to improve as his players return to the fold.
Ahead of this weekend’s outing, he explained (via Laurie Whitwell) that absent trio Christian Eriksen, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire are ‘hopeful’ of making the matchday squad. Mason Mount, however, needs ‘some days or a week more’ until he can make his comeback.
