Manchester United ready to take advantage of Barcelona’s overhaul with pursuit of former PL centre-back

Manchester United will reportedly look to take advantage of Barcelona’s problematic financial situation in the summer when the Spanish side are forced to oversee several outgoings.

The Red Devils have again found themselves linked with Danish international Andreas Christensen, who, if a deal was completed, would become the third member of the national team to don United’s colours this year.

Speculation surrounding United and centre-backs has been circulating for some time now; when it looked as though Harry Maguire was certain to depart last summer, the club were eyeing replacements to fill the Englishman’s void.

Now, it’s the debilitating injury crisis that has Erik ten Hag scouring the market for reinforcements. Maguire is currently sidelined, along with Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez, though the latter has just returned to team training after a lengthy layoff.

Fitness issues haven’t spared the likes of Raphael Varane or Jonny Evans either, meaning youngster Willy Kambwala was granted his senior debut this term to paper over the cracks in United’s ever-changing backline.

United lining up Christensen pursuit

As per Fichajes, the Reds are targeting Christensen for a potential summer transfer, as they have little room for manoeuvre when trying to navigate the Financial Fair Play regulations, so a winter approach is off the table.

The 27-year-old boasts a plethora of experience in England due to the 10 years he spent with Premier League rivals Chelsea.
