Manchester United confirm 27-year-old’s January return to Premier League rivals

Manchester United have confirmed that Sergio Reguilon has returned to parent club Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils have opted to trigger the break clause in his loan agreement, which sees Reguilon depart Old Trafford for North London after four months.

In that time, the Spaniard made 12 appearances as a Red; nine in the Premier League, two in the Champions League and one in the Carabao Cup. Seven were as a starter.

Reguilon was sought for coverage on deadline day after it was announced that Luke Shaw would oversee a spell on the sidelines, where he’d join United’s only other senior left-back, Tyrell Malacia.

Now that the Englishman is available and the latter is closing in on his long-awaited comeback, the club have decided there is no need to keep Reguilon for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll be granted a role in Ange Postecoglou’s squad as they continue their top-four charge, or if the 27-year-old will be loaned out again to another side.
