Three returnees and defender suspended: How United are shaping up for West Ham trip on Saturday

Manchester United make the trip to the London Stadium this Saturday to take on in-form West Ham United in their final Premier League clash before Christmas.

Another reunion with former United boss David Moyes is on the cards and after he narrowly escaped relegation with the Irons last term, he’s had the side in fine form since the 2023/24 campaign began.

West Ham sit eighth-placed heading into the match and just one point behind United in seventh, meaning they could leapfrog the Reds with a win.

In terms of Erik ten Hag’s selection options for the contest, he’ll be forced to navigate Diogo Dalot’s absence after the defender was shown two yellow cards in the closing stages of last weekend’s Anfield stalemate.

On a more positive note, Christian Eriksen returned to training on Monday after his five-week layoff with a knee injury. His expertise will steady the midfield after a tumultuous period, though it remains to be seen if he’ll replace the likes of Scott McTominay, Kobbie Mainoo or Bruno Fernandes in the starting 11.

Amad Diallo is yet to feature this term after sustaining an injury in United’s pre-season tour, meaning he also hasn’t had the chance to build on his scintillating Sunderland loan spell from last season. However, his first outing could well be on the horizon, as he has been pictured with the squad in this week’s sessions at Carrington.

Fernandes back in the fold and confirmed absentees

Having missed the Liverpool draw through a one-match suspension, Fernandes is back available, which will come as a huge relief for the manager to have his captain back at his disposal.

Elsewhere, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are all confirmed to be or expected to be unavailable.
