Erik ten Hag learns price tag of ‘Rolls Royce’ centre-back target; United will face stark competition from other clubs

Everton have slapped a whopping £100 million price tag on highly-rated centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, as per i News.

The report claims that the 21-year-old has been deemed a ‘Rolls Royce defender who has everything’ – so it’s clear to see why he’s attracting interest from clubs across Europe, especially Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund.

For the Toffees, there’s no doubt that they’ll be doing absolutely everything in their power to keep Branthwaite at Goodison Park for the foreseeable future. He has cemented his place in the starting 11 and looks wise beyond his years when up against such senior, prolific opposition.

How Branthwaite has fared as of late

On the back of their widely-covered 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules, Everton have won four of their subsequent five matches, already reclaiming the points that were taken off of them and keeping four successive clean sheets along the way.

Branthwaite started – and played the full 90 minutes – in three of the wins, only missing Saturday’s victory at Turf Moor through yellow card suspension. He has become a fierce stalwart at the heart of Sean Dyche’s resurgent Blues squad.

Meanwhile, United’s debilitating injury crisis at Old Trafford has seen all of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans miss games through illness or fitness concerns. Erik ten Hag is adamant about acquiring a new centre-back to bolster his options centrally, though it remains to be seen if the board could cough up such a high fee for Branthwaite in 2024.
