Michael Owen slams Bruno Fernandes for discipline issues

Michael Owen took aim at Bruno Fernandes after Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.

The former Manchester United striker even joked that he got suspended on purpose to avoid having to face Liverpool next weekend.

Fernandes had one of his worst performances of the season. Ineffective in attack and a liability in our side of the pitch, as seen for Bournemouth’s opening goal.

The only player that left the player with credit, as far as I’m concerned, was Harry Maguire. The rest were disappointing and you could single out more than a few.

Owen pointed out Fernandes for criticism and joked that he got booked to avoid next week’s trip to Anfield. That, in other words, is calling the captain a coward.

“I wonder how many yellow cards he’s had for dissent and waving his arms about,” Owen told Premier League Productions, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “Possibly you don’t fancy going to Anfield. I wouldn’t at the moment. I’m not sure you’re thinking of the next game when you’re in the thick of playing.

“He should be responsible; he should be a good ambassador and a leader for the team. We all know referees are clamping down on that and he gets booked an awful lot for a player who hardly puts his foot in and tackles. Really, he gets booked an awful lot.”

Fernandes will be a loss for United next week and it only adds to Ten Hag’s selection problems.
