Bruno Fernandes admits Manchester United ‘lacked many things’ in defeat to Bournemouth

Manchester United are continuing to be inconsistent this season as the latest 90-minute affair brought an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

United crumbled just days after putting in their best performance of the season against Chelsea and the pressure is now mounting on Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman was already under pressure to turn a corner this season but after the latest performance, it doesn’t look like his side is there quite yet.

Bruno Fernandes picked up his fifth booking of the season in the game and will subsequently miss next week’s trip to Anfield through suspension.

The United skipper took on media duties after the game and was brutally honest, admitting his side were simply not good enough and need to be more consistent.

“We lacked many things and that’s why we don’t get the result today,” Fernandes is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.

“Everything was lower than the levels in the game before and that’s why when you play teams like Bournemouth, who are really aggressive and on the front foot, they press you, and you think it’s going to be easy, you get these kind of results.

“Everything was underperforming. Creativity, movement and arriving with bodies into the box. Most of the time we arrived with one or two players, but in the last game we had more getting in the box to score a goal.

“Today, it was, as I said, underperforming. We just lack consistency and that’s a big part of football. It’s really important to be consistent every game and we’re not being.”

United now face a huge week of games as they face both Bayern Munich and Liverpool and if you look at the tables in each competition, the Reds should really be aiming for six points from those two games.

In the Champions League, United must beat Bayern Munich and hope that Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw their game.
