Pochettino reserves special praise for ‘exciting’ and ‘talented’ United player ahead of Old Trafford showdown

Mauricio Pochettino singled out Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho for high praise ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Old Trafford this evening.

Amidst the disarray that 10 defeats have inflicted on the Red Devils, fans can still cling to the likes of Garnacho as one silver lining throughout a torrid start to the term.

He etched his name into club  – and Premier League – history with his scintillating overhead kick against Everton a fortnight ago, and went on to follow it up with a crucial opener in the Reds’ Champions League clash just three days later.

The teenager’s form has earned him a more frequent, starting role under Erik ten Hag; he has started the past seven matches in all competitions, keeping £86 million Antony out of the line-up.

Whether or not he’ll be deployed from the get-go tonight remains to be seen, especially if the manager opts for a reshuffle following the dismal loss at St. James’ Park.

Pochettino lauds Garnacho

Pochettino is one man eagerly awaiting to see Garnacho in action though – he’ll just hope he doesn’t work his way onto the scoresheet.

The Blues boss said of Garnacho (via the Standard): “He is an exciting player, young and talented. It’s not surprising to us because we knew about him when he was in Spain before moving to Manchester. It’s good to see a young player being brave and showing the talent that he is showing.

“He is Argentinian and Spanish. He is the opposite of me because I am Argentinian-Spanish; he is Spanish-Argentinian.

“It’s exciting because it’s good to have these type of players for the national team and I’m excited to see him on the pitch.”
