Chelsea star suspended for Manchester United clash after red card

Manchester United have been handed a boost ahead of their upcoming mid-week clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag will be keen on getting his side back on the winning track after a disappointing defeat at Newcastle this weekend, with the Dutchman’s men being completely dominated by the Magpies.

A win over Chelsea would mean that United have won six of their last eight Premier League games and although issues remain for Ten Hag to solve, that’s form the Reds can build on in the second half of the season.

United’s struggles this season have been well-documented but the visitors on Wednesday have endured an even patchier season.

As things stand, Chelsea are lagging behind United by five points in the table after closing the gap this weekend following their win against Brighton.

That win came at a cost, however, with midfielder Conor Gallagher being sent off in the first half against the Seagulls.

The former Crystal Palace loanee was handed his marching orders after a second bookable offense and will now miss Chelsea’s trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Gallagher has certainly evolved into one of Mauricio Pochettino’s most important players, with the England international starting all of Chelsea’s 14 Premier League games this season.

His absence will enforce at least one change for Pochettino but Ten Hag is likely to make more after that horrendous outing at St. James Park.

Rasmus Hojlund is almost certain to return to the lineup after Anthony Martial’s no-show and Victor Lindelof will step in to partner Harry Maguire.

Mason Mount could return to the matchday squad after returning to full training earlier this week.
