Erik ten Hag hails youngster’s acrobatic finish but dismisses Rooney & Ronaldo comparisons

Alejandro Garnacho’s sensational acrobatic finish for Manchester United on Sunday will be contender for goal of the season.

There was high praise in the commentary box as Garnacho hit the back of the net to open the scoring at Goodison Park.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been in a stadium where I’ve seen an overhead kick that good… and I was there for Wayne Rooney’s against Manchester City,” Gary Neville told Sky Sports, as quoted by BBC Sport.

The 19-year-old met Diogo Dalot’s cross in the third minute at Goodison Park and he struck gold from 15 yards out with a stunning overhead kick into the top corner.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Erik ten Hag said it was too soon to be comparing his young player with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“The season, still many games to play, but probably already the goal of the season,” Ten Hag said, as per Reuters. “It was incredible.”

The Argentina international was in disbelief after the game: “I didn’t see how I scored, I just listened to the crowd and said ‘Oh my god.’ One of the best goals I’ve scored, I’m very happy.”
