Fulham manager Marcos Silva hails influential Manchester United duo

Fulham manager Marco Silva was full of praise for two Manchester United players following their 1-0 win at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

We all thought United had the perfect start when Scott McTominay found the back of the net after four minutes, however, a lengthy VAR rule deemed Harry Maguire offside and the goal was disallowed.

McTominay played the full 90 minutes and Silva credited him – as well as goalkeeper Andre Onana – for forcing him to tweak his tactics for the game.

Fulham had a total of 18 shots (9 on target), so it would be fair to say it was a busy afternoon for Onana, who performed well to record his fifth clean sheet for United.

Speaking to Fulham’s club media after the match, Silva said: “It’s a really difficult one to take.

“Overall, we have to say we were the best team on the pitch, but again it’s the same old story. That was the reality of the afternoon again. First half was 50/50 and Man United started slightly better than us, I have to say.

“McTominay was most dominant in certain areas of the pitch. After that we adjusted and started to come into the game but the first half was 50/50. Second half was completely different. We adjusted some things at half-time and we were the best team on the pitch second half.”

Silva added: “We didn’t give almost anything to them. We created enough to score, very good saves from Onana. Even so, we should have created so much more because we arrived so well in dangerous areas that we should have created more with the right decision.

“Unfortunately we didn’t and we were punished by 10 seconds that is difficult to understand how that happened with us because it’s not the first time.”

Next up for United is a trip to Copenhagen. Onana will be one of the first names on the team sheet, whereas there may be a decision made to change things around in midfield.

The Reds started with a midfield three of Sofyan Amrabat, Christian Eriksen and McTominay against Fulham.
