Bruno Fernandes hails Manchester United team-mate after late Fulham win

Bruno Fernandes became this weekend’s hero when the Portuguese midfielder scored a 91st-minute winner to give United three much-needed points in the Premier League, taking his side into sixth in the Premier League for now.

United looked to be heading for another winless game, leaving them with just five wins from their opening 11 games but Fernandes stepped up to score the winning goal.

Fernandes was not the only player to create headlines from Craven Cottage, however, with former captain Harry Maguire also earning praise from onlookers.

Maguire has recovered from a highly turbulent period to become one of United’s most consistent performers in recent weeks and speaking after the game, Fernandes praised his team-mate.

“He was good, he was important for us today with the long balls,” Fernandes told the BBC on Maguire.

“But we also need to give credit to Jonny [Evans] as well and Rafael [Varane] when he came on, he was ready to fight for the team.

“Everyone has been important, I don’t want to focus too much on one player but everyone has been too critical of Harry and he’s doing really well now. I hope he can stay at this level.”

United now face yet another make-or-break game as Erik ten Hag takes his side to Copenhagen next week and Fernandes has highlighted the importance of returning back to Manchester with three points.

United have just three points from their opening three games in the Champions League and they cannot afford to drop any more points.

“Every game is important now. We know we have to win that game [at Copenhagen] to get through the group. We have to show the same passion and quality that we showed today,” he said.

“I know we have even more than we showed today.”
