Adrien Rabiot’s mother denies claims Manchester United move collapsed after wage demands

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has been the subject of intense transfer rumours over the last two summers, with Manchester United said to have been close to signing the Frenchman.

United’s interest in Rabiot in 2022 was real and some reports even claim that he was set to join the club before his wage demands meant that a move was abandoned.

He ended up staying at Juventus for what would have been his final season before the expiry of his contract but eventually, an extension was agreed with the Italian giants.

Now, Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique Rabiot has denied claims that the relationship between the player’s camp and United turned sour over salary negotiations.

“All false,” she said speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, via GOAL.

“United wanted to meet me to illustrate their interest in Adrien, but we never talked about money in detail because he quickly decided to stay in Turin. There were never any real negotiations, and we are on excellent terms with Manchester United.”

As the story has it, United ended up pulling the plug on signing Rabiot last year and instead signed Casemiro from Real Madrid, which has proved to be quite the coup.

There are, however, murmurings that Erik ten Hag is still keen on strengthening his midfield in the upcoming transfer windows.

Rabiot’s contract extension in Turin was only for an additional season and it remains to be seen if United enter the market for the France international once more.
