Former Arsenal and Real Madrid star Mesut Özil watched Manchester United pick up their first three points in the Champions League last night.
Ozil took to Twitter after the game to laud United duo Andre Onana and Harry Maguire for praise.
Both Maguire and Onana have been subject to heavy criticism for their form. It has been the case for the defender for over 12 months, while our new keeper has felt the heat since his arrival ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
The United pair played a starring role in Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over Copenhagen. Maguire scored the only goal and Onana denied a penalty in stoppage-time.
Ozil wrote: “Harry Maguire & Andre Onana deserve that – silencing their haters.”

The former Germany international was linked with a move to Old Trafford before he signed for Madrid from Werder Bremen in 2008. Sir Alex Ferguson was a fan at the time, but considering how his career turned out at Arsenal, it’s not a transfer we feel United missed out on like Luka Modric.
That said, Ozil was one of the best playmakers in Europe during his prime, but he only managed to win one league title throughout his career. That came in 2011 under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.
