Premier League club will be first in line if Manchester United star opts to leave club in January

West Ham United will be ‘front of the queue’ to negotiate a deal for Harry Maguire if the defender opts to leave Manchester United in January, as per Football Insider.

The former Red Devils captain has oversaw a similar situation to that of last season, in which game time is incredibly limited under Erik ten Hag. So far this term, he has made just two starts – one in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup – and has been granted a further two appearances off the bench. He has yet to feature in the Champions League.

West Ham had a £30 million bid accepted for Maguire in the summer but a transfer ultimately failed to materialise, however, David Moyes remains keen on bringing the 30-year-old to the London Stadium in some form, whether it be a loan or permanent deal.

January exit unlikely for Maguire

In turn, it’s unlikely that United would sanction a mid-season exit, especially after the injury crisis they’ve endured so far this campaign. Over 16 players have missed at least one game with fitness concerns, meaning the likes of Maguire and other fringe members of the squad have been called into action.
