Erling Haaland comparisons prompt humble response from Rasmus Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund will took take on Erling Haaland in his first ever Manchester derby as the Reds take on Pep Guardiola’s side at the end of October.

While Hojlund has yet to score in the Premier League, the Denmark international has netted two goals in two Champions League games since joining United. United fan will hope he can add to his account at the weekend against Sheffield United.

The comparisons between him and Erling Haaland initially emerged when it was confirmed that he’d be joining United. Many, including myself, felt it was unfair on the 20-year-old, who is under more than enough pressure at Old Trafford.

When speaking to Danish outlet TV2 Sport, Hojlund was asked about the comparison with Haaland. He gave a rather humble response and showed his eagerness to develop as a footballer.

“I would rather not be compared to him,” Hojlund said. “I think he is in a class of his own. I hope that one day I can reach his level, but right now, I think it is too early.

“Erling is, in any case, the world’s best striker, if not the world’s best footballer. I don’t really want to be compared to him, but I hope that one day I can be like him.

“Who knows? I am only 20-years-old. We will have to see what will happen in the future.”

Right now, I think the comparisons between the two really begin and end with the fact they’re both Scandinavian strikers.

Hojlund is his own man.
