Premier League club consider reigniting interest in Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire, like many of his team-mates, is facing an uncertain future at Manchester United after he fell down Erik ten Hag’s pecking order last season.

The Dutchman has a clear preference in defence, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane being his undisputed first-choice pairing.

Victor Lindelof is next in line and there is no guarantee that Maguire will be picked ahead of Jonny Evans as the season progresses following the Northern Ireland international’s promising start to life back at Old Trafford.

Maguire was the subject of interest from West Ham in the recent summer transfer window and although the two clubs were said to have been in advanced talks over a transfer fee, a move never materialised and Maguire ended up staying at the club.

Now, it is being claimed that West Ham are considering another move for Maguire in the upcoming winter window and thus reigniting their initial interest, with David Moyes said to be a fan.

That’s according to ESPN, who say that West Ham could line up a fresh bid for Maguire if he continues to watch on from the sidelines under Ten Hag.

As per the report, West Ham have been given encouragement of the likelihood of a deal in January, with United unlikely to stand in Maguire’s way if he wants to leave.

West Ham’s interest also comes after Kurt Zouma, the club captain, became the subject of interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia. The Hammers are believed to be keen on tying the Frenchman down to a new deal but in the case of his departure, Maguire sits at the top of Moyes’ wishlist of possible replacements.

From United’s point of view, Maguire’s departure would leave Ten Hag short of options and with his current centre-backs continuing to struggle with injuries, United may look to sign a replacement before sanctioning anything.
