Manchester United star hints that he’s fallen out of favour under Erik ten Hag

Christian Eriksen has seemingly admitted that he has fallen in the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

The 31-year-old has seen his game time reduced upon the arrivals of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat, after a season in which he was the first choice to partner Casemiro in the middle of the park.

Eriksen has started three Premier League games and one Champions League game, picking up one goal and one assist for the term so far. He came off the bench as a substitute in a further five matches.

Having missed a significant chunk of the 2022/2023 campaign through injury, the Dane has admitted that he would like to play as much as possible now that he’s fully fit – as is the case with any player. But while his fellow midfielders are also available, Eriksen may have to settle for a lesser role, being used in rotation or as a bench option.

Eriksen reacts to season so far

While on international duty, he was quizzed on United’s start to the season as well as his own personal involvement. Eriksen told Ekstrabladet: “I think you should ask the coach what he thinks. We have been hit hard by injuries in defence. We have simply conceded too many goals.”

“I was sick last week, but I’m doing fine. I don’t have any flaws,” he continued. “The body feels good and of course, I want to play every game. But if you have seen the matches yourself, you may also see that [Ten Hag] plays with slightly different types [of player] than me.”

  1. ETH plays eriksen in his wrong position. He is an attacking midfielder. Basically a ten and a liability anywhere deeper. Another area where ETH seems ole-esque. Who played mcfred as a the deep midfielders despite it being obvious they were awful there and is not their position.

United would be better off having Erik den and not Bruno in the ten. He is a better creator. A far smarter player. But who would play the 8? Mount was signed by the manager but he is not an 8 either.
