Jamaica head coach open to Mason Greenwood call-up

Jamaica are leaving the door open for Mason Greenwood to join the national team, with the forward’s England career in jeopardy.

Greenwood was sent on loan to Getafe at the beginning of the season. United conducted a lengthly internal investigation into their player and decided that he would continue his career elsewhere.

However, it remains to be seen if Getafe will look to sign Greenwood on a permanent deal, but he’s still pocketing a hefty wage package due to his contract at United.

Jamaica head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson says the door is open for Greenwood to join the national senior men’s team in the future.

“I am not different from all coaches in the world; we would like to have the best talent on our team. If he gets his former fitness and former levels, for sure he would have that level to help Jamaica,” Hallgrimsson told Jamaica Observer.

There has been no suggestion that Gareth Southgate would take Greenwood back into the squad and I don’t think he ever will.

The question for Greenwood is does he want to have a career in international football and play for Jamaica.

I don’t see a way back for Greenwood at United, so at least it looks like others are willing to take him off our hands. The situation overshadowed the club in the summer and that probably explains why the environment turned more sour at Old Trafford.
