Amad Diallo collects Championship Fans’ Player of the Year award

Amad Diallo finally received his trophy after being named the PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Year.

The Manchester United winger won the award for his performances whilst on loan at Sunderland last season.

Amad, who is already an established international for the Ivory Coast, helped guide Tony Mowbray’s side to the play-offs. Luton Town beat them over two legs and eventually gained promotion to the top-flight.

With 14 goals for Sunderland, it would be fair to say the 21-year-old impressed during his time at the Stadium of Light. He has not had a chance to perform for United this season due to injury he picked up on tour.

Amad was still smiling when his award arrived at Carrington this week.

After joining United from Atalanta in 2021 in a big money switch, the relatively unknown prospect endured an unhappy loan spell at Rangers so it was great to see things work out for him at Sunderland.

Amad’s injury has seen Facundo Pellistri get chances in the team and I hope there’s a period this season when both of them are available.
