Hannibal Mejbri breaks two Premier League records for 23/24 season in Burnley clash

Hannibal Mejbri put in a sensational shift against Burnley last Saturday in his first-ever Premier League start for Manchester United.

The Tunisian played 90 minutes for the Reds as they overturned the Clarets 1-0 at Turf Moor, putting an end to a three-game winless streak.

Hannibal received plaudits for his performance in the game after covering almost every blade of grass with his relentless pressure and tackling, with it later being confirmed that he broke two records with his display.

As per Sky Sports, the 20-year-old now tops the list of players in the top division for sprinting pressures per 90 minutes and pressures per 90 minutes in the 2023/2024 campaign, the latter of which he ranks above teammate Rasmus Hojlund.

He also covered more of the pitch than any other United player (12.9km), as well as ran further than any of his teammates, further than any player since Erik ten Hag was appointed manager, and since such records began being collected in 2019.

That sort of attitude is exactly what United need now – and have been missing in past years – as they look to build a winning run and boost morale across the squad. There’s no doubt that Ten Hag will be overjoyed with what he’s seen of Hannibal in the past few weeks and will be looking to reward him with even more game time.

The manager has made it very clear that to feature in the team, you have to earn it. That’s exactly what Hannibal is doing.
