Samir Handanovic didn’t like Andre Onana’s behaviour after he joined Inter Milan

Former Inter Milan team-mate Samir Handanovic has criticised Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana for his attitude at the Italian club.

Onana joined Inter Milan as a free agent after departing Ajax in 2022, but the Cameroonian was kept on the bench for Serie A matches until October with club captain Handanovic initially seen as first choice.

Handanovic was shown comments from Onana about his start to life in Spain, but told Gazzetta dello Sport (via 90min) that he appreciated the honesty but was critical of Onana’s behaviour during his introduction at the club.

“I liked those words, but I didn’t like his behaviour in the first two months, when he didn’t play.

“Then he told the truth, and it must be added that I was always consistent with him and even helped him.

“No-one, however, said that last season I had injuries that penalised me, a broken wrist, a broken finger and a strained calf.

“But I always went on the bench with the team even when I was unavailable. And I would never go against the club out of belonging to the club and the fans.”

While I think a lot of people are unfairly jumping on Onana’s case at the moment, he has not started life too well at United – conceding 10 goals in 6 games.

It comes as no surprise that pundits are already on his case, with former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher suggesting his was playing up to the crowd when he had a go at Harry Maguire for a mistake during a pre-season match against Borussia Dortmund.
