Bayern Munich suffer injury scare ahead of Manchester United clash

Manchester United return to the Champions League next week with a trip to Bavaria. Reports over the weekend suggest Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has fitness concerns ahead of the game.

Over 3,700 Manchester United fans will travel to Munich this week. They will be hoping for a shock result because nobody will fancy us based on our current form.

Bayern boss Tuchel has confirmed an inflamed tendon forced Joshua Kimmich to come off after an hour during Friday’s 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen, who they share 10 points with at the top of the table after four matches.

“Joshua had an inflamed tendon and we didn’t want to take any risks with him,” Tuchel said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “The medical team clearly said he could only play 60 minutes and that’s why we brought him off in the 60th minute.”

The injury will raise doubts as to whether Kimmich will be fit enough to play Wednesday’s Champions League group opener against United.

Bayern go into the game against United with a longer turnaround than Erik ten Hag’s side, who were beaten 3-1 by Brighton on Saturday.

The Bundesliga champions conceded late on to settle for a point against Leverkusen, despite Harry Kane giving them an early lead. Netherlands centre-back Matthijs de Ligt played in the defensive midfielder role for the final half-hour.

No wonder Bayern wanted Fulham’s Joao Palinha in the summer. Maybe they should have went for Scott McTominay?
