Argentina manager says Lisandro Martinez felt discomfort from previous foot injury against Arsenal

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has delivered a fresh update on Lisandro Martinez’s fitness.

The defender was substituted in the 67th minute of Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday, which ultimately ended in a 3-1 defeat when he left the pitch.

Seeing Martinez on the floor and clutching at his foot sparked grave concern among the Old Trafford faithful, as his season ended prematurely due to a metatarsal injury in April, and he’s certainly one player they’d struggle without.

However, reports following the game confirmed that he would take part on international duty with Argentina and was fit to play. The world champions will play two fixtures before club action returns, so hopefully, no further issues arise for Martinez.

Scaloni provides Martinez fitness update

Scaloni is keeping tabs on the situation and is being careful as to not overplay the United star. He also assured that Martinez had been checked by the medical staff and no concerns were flagged up.

The coach said in his pre-match press conference (via TyC Sports on YouTube): “Licha suffered a foot problem, he had surgery a while ago and in the last game he felt discomfort in that area. We have done studies and he is fine. Despite this, we don’t want to rush him tomorrow.”
